There is no argument that The Crandon International Off-Road Raceway is the most famous, most important short course off-road racing racetrack in the world. Affectionately known as “The Big House” Crandon is the equivalent of the Indy 500, Le Mans, and Daytona all wrapped into one. No other race track in the world allows for a landrush start into a downhill off-camber corner which always sets the stage for dramatic door-to-door off-road warfare. The vortex of Crandon always attracts the best short course off-road racers in the world regardless of league politics. Everybody from the G.OA.T. Rob MacCachren to Johnny and CJ Greaves, RJ Anderson, Kyle Leduc, Keegan Kincaid, to Ryan Beat are mainstays of the three days of racing over Labor Day weekend. 51 years later Crandon still stands even with the challenges of putting on and event during the COVID Pandemic. This year’s weekend will feature 26 Champ Off-Road Pro and Sportsman class races, as well as two feature races for Ultra4’s King of the Hammers, stars on Saturday night and Sunday. I am intimately familiar with every inch of this track having shot there beginning in 2005. I have seen everything from the horrific crashes to the thrilling victories and I can tell you there is no place like Crandon. We put together this episode of Race Motion to celebrate the most iconic short course track in the world and all the warriors who have the balls to step into the off-road “Colosseum” known as Crandon.
